THE HISTORY BEHIND WILLIAM MORRIS AND MORRIS & CO.
William Morris was a British artist, designer, writer, philosopher and political thinker. Today he's considered to be one of the world's most renowned wallpaper designers, and a leading figure in the Arts & Craft style; the movement that was born as a reaction against the Victorian Industrial Capitalism. William's goal was to bring back craftsmanship into wallpapers, and thus swore to create handcrafted, accessible and affordable wallpapers for everyone. In order to realise this dream, he and his partners started the company Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co in 1861. It didn't take long before William Morris saw his first creation come to life, producing the marvellous wallpaper pattern "Trellis" in 1862. In the years that followed, Morris become a public figure in Britain, and rebranded the wallpaper company to Morris & Co in march 1875. Several generations later, his timeless classics live on, more popular than ever. The wallpaper manufacturer Morris & Co delivers authentic versions of William Morris' block prints and first creations, whilst also reinterpreting his designs in new and innovative ways.
